A little background helps explain who we are. As you may know, Laudato Si’ is an encyclical by Pope Francis published in May 2015. It explains how we should care for the natural environment and all people, as well as addressing broader questions of the relationship between God, humans, and the Earth.
We are a ministry of motivated parishioners attempting to LIVE and SHARE the message of Pope Francis’ encyclical, which presents the spiritual justification for caring for the created world (a gift from God). Our actions focus on care for “our common home” as well as broader efforts to improve the relationship between God, humans, and the Earth.
Please consider joining with us, in this mission.
Pope Francis begins this encyclical with quotes from the canticle of Saint Francis of Assisi: “Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us.” Pope Francis acknowledges his namesake Saint Francis and references his teachings, noting that the Saint “shows us just how inseparable the bond is between concern for nature, justice for the poor, commitment to society, and interior peace.” (LS 1 and10)
We also note that two years ago the Archdiocese of St. Louis created a Laudato Si’ Commission. It’s mission statement reads: “Inspired by the hope of Christ, the Laudato Si’ Commission (LSC) seeks to better align the Archdiocese of St. Louis to our Catholic Teaching on Integral Ecology as exemplified in Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ encyclical through education, formation, collaboration, and community outreach.” We seek to take an active role in this mission, right here at Most Sacred Heart Parish.
